Coaching: Sport and Fitness

Coaching in sport and fitness is about far more than instructing people how to move. At its core, it is a discipline concerned with understanding human performance, behaviour, and development, and with creating the conditions in which individuals and groups can achieve their potential. Effective coaches draw on exercise science, psychology, pedagogy, and leadership to plan, observe, adapt, and communicate in ways that genuinely help people improve.

At Wrexham University, you will study this three-year, full-time programme in a setting that combines academic study with practical development. You will explore the physiological foundations of sport and fitness, gaining an understanding of how the body responds and adapts to training across different intensities, durations, and contexts. Alongside this, you will study sports psychology, developing your understanding of motivation, confidence, goal-setting, and the mental demands of competitive performance.

Coaching pedagogy forms another thread of the programme, examining how different coaching styles and communication strategies affect learning and development in sport.
