About this course

Civil and Structural Engineering shapes the built environment in the most fundamental way. Bridges, tunnels, dams, roads, railways, buildings, and water treatment systems all depend on engineers who understand how forces act on materials, how structures bear load, and how to design systems that are safe, durable, and cost-effective. Structural engineering is the branch that analyses and designs the load-bearing framework of constructions, while civil engineering addresses the broader systems that underpin infrastructure and the public realm.

Together they form one of the most socially significant branches of engineering.

At the University of Bradford, this four-year, full-time programme includes an integrated foundation year, which builds the mathematical and scientific foundations students need before progressing to the full degree. In your early years you will move across formal lectures, tutorials, and laboratory classes, developing both theoretical understanding and practical skills in a structured way.
