About this course

Civil and environmental engineering addresses two of the most pressing challenges of the century: how to build and maintain the physical infrastructure that modern societies depend on, and how to do so in ways that are sustainable and minimise environmental damage. Civil engineers design and oversee the construction of roads, bridges, buildings, water systems, and the infrastructure of cities. Environmental engineering focuses on the management and mitigation of environmental risks, from water treatment and pollution control to flood management and sustainable drainage.

Combining the two fields equips you to practice engineering with the environmental intelligence that employers and regulatory bodies increasingly require.

At Coventry University, this three-year full-time programme develops practical skills alongside the engineering science that underpins them. You will study structural engineering, materials science, geotechnics, hydraulics, environmental impact assessment, waste management, and the management of construction projects. The programme is designed to develop the kind of practitioner who can drive environmental innovation in a sector that is under significant pressure to reduce its footprint.

A sandwich year places you in a professional engineering environment for an extended period, a year abroad broadens your technical and cultural experience, and work placement experience is integrated throughout.
