Child and Family Studies

Child and family studies is an academic discipline concerned with the welfare, development and rights of children and young people, and with the family and social contexts in which they grow up. It draws on developmental psychology, sociology, social policy, ethics and child welfare research to build an understanding of what children need to thrive, how families function under different kinds of pressure, what puts children at risk, and how practitioners across social work, social care, education and health can intervene effectively.
