About this course

Chemistry with medicinal chemistry places the science of molecules at the service of one of its most important applications: the discovery and development of drugs that treat disease and relieve suffering. Chemistry is the science of matter and its transformations, concerned with the composition, structure, and reactivity of molecules from the simplest elements to the most complex biological compounds. Medicinal chemistry brings that knowledge to bear on the design of therapeutic molecules, asking how we can understand biological targets, design compounds that interact with them selectively, and optimise those compounds into safe and effective medicines.

At the University of Warwick, this three-year full-time programme develops the core competencies of a chemistry education, including practical laboratory skills, analytical techniques, and quantitative reasoning, alongside specialist knowledge in medicinal chemistry. A sandwich placement year, a year abroad, and work placement opportunities are all built into the programme, giving you substantial professional and international experience in chemical research or pharmaceutical settings before you graduate.
