About this course

Chemistry is the science of matter at the molecular and atomic level, exploring how substances are structured, how they interact, and how energy drives those interactions. It sits at the meeting point of physics, biology, and materials science, which means it underpins everything from the development of new medicines to the design of sustainable materials and the understanding of environmental processes. Studying chemistry trains you to think rigorously about causation and mechanism, to work carefully with experimental evidence, and to connect theoretical models to observable phenomena.

At Nottingham you will build foundations in organic, inorganic, and physical chemistry before moving into more specialised territory as the programme progresses. Laboratory work is central throughout, developing practical technique alongside the interpretive skills needed to make sense of experimental data.
