About this course

Chemistry is the science of matter at the molecular and atomic level, asking what substances are made of, how they interact, and how new materials and compounds can be designed and synthesised. It is a central discipline that sits at the heart of biology, medicine, materials science, and environmental science, providing the molecular understanding that underpins advances in drug development, renewable energy, polymer science, and analytical technology. This three-year full-time degree at the University of Liverpool provides a rigorous grounding across the breadth of the discipline. All degree programmes share a common chemistry core in the first two years, giving you a thorough foundation in organic, inorganic, and physical chemistry, with the flexibility to choose optional modules from chemistry or related subjects as your interests develop. In your final year, you will join one of the research teams in the department, working at the frontiers of current chemical knowledge and developing the skills of independent scientific inquiry.
