About this course

Chemical engineering is the discipline that transforms chemistry from the laboratory scale to the industrial scale, asking how chemical processes can be designed, operated, and optimised to produce materials, fuels, pharmaceuticals, food products, and a growing range of sustainable technologies efficiently, safely, and at commercial volumes. It draws on chemistry, physics, mathematics, and thermodynamics to develop engineers who understand both how reactions and separations work at a fundamental level and how to design and control the equipment and processes that make them work at scale. Chemical engineers are central to the energy, pharmaceutical, food, materials, and environmental industries.

At Bradford this three-year full-time programme includes a foundation year, providing a supported entry route for students who benefit from additional mathematical and scientific preparation before the main degree. The programme develops your knowledge of the principles and practices of chemical engineering, including fluid mechanics, heat and mass transfer, thermodynamics, reaction engineering, and process design, alongside the safety and environmental considerations that are fundamental to responsible engineering practice.
