About this course

Chemical engineering transforms the principles of chemistry, physics, biology, and mathematics into the large-scale processes that produce the materials, fuels, medicines, and food that modern society depends on. It is concerned with how chemical reactions and physical processes can be designed, scaled up, and operated safely and efficiently, and it sits at the heart of industries including petrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, food and beverages, energy, materials, and environmental technology. The integrated MEng route at Brunel takes you through the full breadth of the discipline at master's level in a single four-year programme.

At Brunel University London, this four-year, full-time integrated MEng programme has been designed to give you a broad range of knowledge and skills suited to the needs of the chemical and biochemical industries. The programme draws on contemporary pedagogical approaches, including problem-based learning and flipped classrooms, to develop your ability to apply chemical engineering principles to real and complex challenges rather than simply recalling theoretical content. You will study thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat and mass transfer, reaction engineering, process control, and separation processes, alongside the biological and biochemical dimensions that are increasingly important in modern chemical engineering.

The programme is accredited by the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE), the principal professional body for the discipline.

A typical entry tariff of 120 points makes the programme accessible to a range of students with strong quantitative backgrounds. Graduates from chemical engineering MEng programmes are eligible to pursue chartered engineer status and are sought by employers in oil and gas, pharmaceuticals, food processing, environmental engineering, energy, and materials. The integrated master's qualification is particularly valued for those who intend to follow a professional engineering career or move into research and development roles.

Many graduates continue to doctoral study in chemical engineering, process intensification, or related fields.

Highly recommend
The programme genuinely lives up to its reputation. The best part: the teaching staff are genuinely world-class and accessible. If I'm honest, some seminar groups were too big for meaningful discussion. On the city β€” local cost of living is…

A great decision
Honestly, one of the best decisions I've made. The best part: the opportunity to do independent research in the final year is a highlight. If I'm honest, accommodation allocation was stressful in the first year. On the city β€” the city is a …
