About this course

Business with Marketing is a combination that prepares you for one of the most important relationships in any commercial organisation: the connection between strategic business management and the discipline of understanding, reaching and retaining customers. Marketing is not simply a communications function; it sits at the heart of business strategy, shaping decisions about products, pricing, distribution, brand, and the allocation of resources across markets. Studying business alongside marketing gives you the broader commercial and organisational context that makes the marketing function genuinely comprehensible.

At Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen, this four-year full-time BA (Hons) is accredited by the Chartered Institute of Marketing, a recognition that translates into partial exemptions from CIM professional qualification examinations through the CIM Graduate Gateway. You will study the core principles of business management, including strategy, operations, finance, economics and organisational behaviour, alongside dedicated marketing content covering consumer behaviour, digital marketing, brand management, market research, and integrated marketing communications. A sandwich year gives you the opportunity to work in a relevant commercial organisation before your final year, and a year abroad broadens your international perspective.

Work placement is also integrated throughout the programme.

RGU's strong links to industry, particularly in the energy, food and drink, and professional services sectors that are significant in north-east Scotland, support both placement and graduate recruitment. Graduates move into roles in marketing management, brand management, digital marketing, market research, product development, account management, and general commercial management. Many also pursue CIM qualification alongside or after their degree, and some go on to postgraduate study in marketing, business, or data analytics.

Genuinely worthwhile
The course has exceeded my expectations. The best part: the opportunity to do independent research in the final year is a highlight. If I'm honest, first-year classes can be quite large. On the city β€” the city is a brilliant student city wi…

Solid, with caveats
Would I choose it again? Probably yes, with caveats. The best part: small-group tutorials really push your thinking. If I'm honest, the timetable has some awkward 9am / Friday afternoon slots. On the city β€” good transport links make it easy…
