About this course

Business and management education develops your understanding of how organisations function, how they are led, and how they compete and cooperate in complex markets and social environments. Italian, one of the great languages of Europe with a cultural heritage spanning art, music, literature, and philosophy, brings a specific linguistic and cultural dimension to that business education, opening access to a major European economy and to communities and markets across the Italian-speaking world.

At the University of Glasgow, this five-year full-time programme combines structured study of business and management with the development of genuine proficiency in Italian. You will study organisational theory, strategy, marketing, finance, accounting, and human resource management, developing both the theoretical frameworks and the practical analytical tools that business roles require. Alongside that, your Italian language studies will develop from foundational competence to professional fluency, encompassing both contemporary usage and the literary and cultural contexts that shape how Italians communicate and think about business and society.

A sandwich year places you in a professional setting for a sustained period, and work placement experience runs throughout the programme.

Graduates are well placed for roles in international business, finance, trade, management consultancy, marketing, and roles within Italian and Italian-connected organisations across Europe and beyond. The Italian language adds particular value in creative industries, luxury goods, design, and manufacturing sectors in which Italy has distinctive international standing. Postgraduate study in international business, European studies, management, or Italian area studies is available for those who wish to specialise.

Professional qualifications in management and accounting are also pursued by many graduates alongside their careers.

Highly recommend
The programme genuinely lives up to its reputation. The best part: the accounting and finance streams are taught by practitioners, not just academics. If I'm honest, some seminar groups were too big for meaningful discussion. On the city β€” …
