About this course

Business management and law is a combination that reflects the realities of how organisations actually function. Every business decision unfolds within a legal framework, and managers who understand contract, employment, company, and commercial law are better equipped to lead responsibly and avoid costly errors. At the same time, those with legal training who understand business strategy, marketing, finance, and organisational behaviour are more effective advisers to the clients and organisations they serve.

The combination develops you as someone who can think across commercial and legal contexts with genuine competence.

At the University of Law, this four-year full-time programme includes a placement year, which gives you structured professional experience alongside your academic studies. The placement year is a significant component of the degree, placing you in a real business or legal environment where you can develop professional skills, build a network, and return to your final year with direct insight into how business and law interact in practice. You will study core areas of business management including strategy, finance, marketing, and organisational behaviour, alongside key legal subjects including contract law, tort, employment law, and company law.

The programme develops communication skills, the ability to evaluate legal and business situations, and the professional awareness needed to work effectively in commercial environments.

The University of Law's background in legal education gives the law components of this degree a practical and professionally oriented character, grounded in the realities of legal practice rather than purely abstract doctrine.

Graduates pursue careers in corporate management, commercial law, compliance, human resources, finance, and a range of fields where legal awareness and business knowledge work together. Some go on to qualify as solicitors through the Solicitors Qualifying Examination. Others pursue careers in business, consultancy, or public administration.

Postgraduate study in law or business is also a natural option.

Honestly, one of the best decisions I've made. The best part: small-group tutorials really push your thinking. If I'm honest, some seminar groups were too big for meaningful discussion. On the city β€” the city is a brilliant student city wit…
