About this course

Business management is the study of how organisations are structured, led, and operated, and how they respond to the internal and external forces that shape their performance. It encompasses strategy, finance, marketing, operations, human resource management, and the broader economic and competitive contexts in which organisations function. The discipline is practical in its orientation but grounded in theory, drawing on economics, psychology, sociology, and quantitative analysis to build a rounded understanding of how organisations create value and manage change.

At Edinburgh Napier University, this four-year, full-time programme is designed to be flexible, offering a modular structure that allows you to combine business management with a range of major and minor subject options, tailoring your degree to your interests and career goals. You will explore how businesses respond to external drivers of change, including technological disruption, globalisation, regulation, and shifting market conditions, as well as the internal strategic and operational decisions that shape performance. The programme includes a year abroad, broadening your perspective by exposing you to different business environments and academic traditions.

Edinburgh, as one of the UK's leading financial and professional services centres, provides a stimulating environment in which to study business.

A typical entry tariff of 136 points reflects a programme that expects a solid academic foundation. Graduates from business management programmes go on to careers across every sector: management consulting, financial services, marketing, operations and supply chain management, retail, public administration, entrepreneurship, and the third sector. The breadth of the qualification means graduates are valued by a wide range of employers, and the combination of analytical thinking, communication skills, and organisational understanding that the degree develops transfers readily across roles and industries.

Postgraduate study in business, management, or a specialist area such as marketing, finance, or human resources is a common next step for those who wish to develop specific expertise.

Genuinely worthwhile
This is the perfect place to study this subject. The best part: the teaching staff are genuinely world-class and accessible. If I'm honest, a few modules feel under-resourced compared to the flagship ones. On the city β€” the city is a brilli…

Coming here has changed how I think. The best part: the accounting and finance streams are taught by practitioners, not just academics. If I'm honest, first-year classes can be quite large. On the city β€” good transport links make it easy to…
