Business Management and Sport & Exercise Science
Business management and sport and exercise science is a combination designed for students who want to understand both the commercial and scientific dimensions of sport as an industry and a professional field. Sport has become a major global industry, encompassing professional clubs, fitness and leisure businesses, sports brands, performance science organisations, and governing bodies, all of which need professionals who can manage commercial operations as well as understand the physiological and psychological science that underpins performance and participation.
At Liverpool Hope University, this four-year full-time degree combines a thorough grounding in business management, covering principles, organisational dynamics, and management processes across public, private, and not-for-profit organisations, with a serious scientific study of human movement, physiology, psychology, and the factors that influence sport and exercise behaviour. You will gain both the commercial acumen to manage sport-related businesses and organisations and the scientific understanding to engage meaningfully with performance, health, and participation in sport. The programme includes a foundation year for additional academic preparation, a sandwich year of professional experience, a year abroad option, and work placements.
The typical entry tariff is 88 UCAS points.
Graduates of this combination pursue careers in sport business management, sports marketing, facility management, sport development, performance analysis, fitness management, sports governing bodies, and the leisure industry. The dual competence the degree develops is particularly valuable in management roles within sport organisations where both commercial judgment and scientific understanding are required. Many graduates also pursue postgraduate study in sport management, sport science, or business, and some go on to coaching education or performance support roles in elite sport.
