About this course

Business management and sport and exercise science is a combination that serves the rapidly growing sport industry exceptionally well, bringing together the commercial and organisational skills needed to run businesses with the scientific understanding of physical performance and health that is central to the sport, fitness, and exercise sectors. Sport has become a significant element of the global economy, encompassing professional clubs, leisure facilities, fitness brands, sports technology, broadcasting, events, and public health, and managing effectively within it requires both business acumen and specialist knowledge.

At Liverpool Hope University, this three-year full-time degree combines business management principles, covering small and medium-sized enterprises as well as global organisations across public, private, and not-for-profit sectors, with the physiology, psychology, and biomechanics of sport and exercise science. You will develop the business skills needed to understand organisations and how they function in uncertain and competitive environments alongside a scientific understanding of how the body performs and adapts to exercise and training. The programme includes a sandwich year, a year abroad, and a work placement, giving you substantial professional experience and an international perspective on both sport and business.

Graduates from business management and sport and exercise science programmes are well placed for careers across the sport, fitness, health, and leisure industries. Sport management, fitness facility management, sports marketing, event management, performance analysis, commercial roles in professional sport, and public sector leisure management are all common destinations. The combination of business and scientific understanding is also valued in roles in the growing sports technology, sports media, and sports sponsorship sectors.

Postgraduate study in sport management, exercise science, or business administration is an option for those who wish to develop specialist expertise.
