About this course

Business computing and data analytics sits at the intersection of two of the most rapidly growing areas of professional demand: the application of computing skills to business problems and the use of data to support decision-making. Organisations across every sector are generating and collecting data at unprecedented scale, and the ability to store, process, analyse and communicate what that data means is increasingly central to competitive advantage, operational efficiency and strategic planning. At Middlesex University, this three-year full-time degree includes a foundation year option and a sandwich placement with work placement, providing both additional academic preparation and direct professional experience in data-intensive commercial or organisational environments.

You will develop skills in programming, database management, data analysis, business intelligence tools, systems design and the statistical and analytical methods used to extract insight from data. The business component gives you the commercial context in which these technical skills are applied, developing your understanding of how organisations function, what decisions they need to make and how data can support those decisions. Middlesex's programme is explicitly oriented toward the skills valued in the IT and data industries, with practical exercises using contemporary software tools and platforms throughout.

A typical entry tariff of around 88 points is expected, with the foundation year providing an additional route for students who need to strengthen their technical or academic foundations.

Graduates work as data analysts, business intelligence developers, systems analysts, database administrators, IT project managers and digital transformation consultants across financial services, healthcare, retail, technology, manufacturing and the public sector. The combination of technical data skills and business understanding makes graduates effective in roles that require both analytical competence and the ability to communicate findings to non-technical audiences. Many graduates also continue to postgraduate study in data science, computer science or business analytics.
