About this course

Business and environment is a programme that takes seriously one of the defining challenges of the early twenty-first century: how can economic activity be organised in ways that are genuinely compatible with environmental sustainability? It is not simply a business degree with environmental modules added, nor an environmental science programme with a management elective. It is a genuinely integrated course that asks you to think about organisations, markets, and strategy through an environmental lens from the outset, and to understand environmental processes well enough to engage with them analytically rather than rhetorically.

Exeter's Penryn campus in Cornwall provides an unusually compelling setting for this degree, combining the resources of a leading research university with proximity to outstanding natural environments and a genuine culture of environmental and social sustainability expertise. You will study the principles of business and management alongside environmental economics, natural resource management, sustainability policy, and the practical challenges of embedding environmental thinking into organisational decision-making. The programme includes a sandwich placement year and a year abroad, both of which give you real professional and international experience, alongside embedded work placement opportunities.

The degree runs over three years full-time, with a typical entry tariff of 120 points.

Graduates of business and environment programmes pursue careers in sustainability consulting, corporate social responsibility, environmental management, policy, energy and resource management, green finance, and NGOs. The combination of commercial literacy and environmental knowledge is increasingly sought after by organisations under growing pressure to demonstrate genuine sustainability credentials. Postgraduate study in environmental management, sustainability, or business is a natural next step for those who want to develop deeper expertise or move into research and policy roles.
