About this course

Business and analytics is a degree designed for a world where organisational decision-making is increasingly driven by data. Business equips you with the strategic, financial, marketing, and operational knowledge to understand how organisations function and compete. Analytics provides the quantitative and computational tools to extract insight from data, build predictive models, and communicate findings in ways that support effective decisions.

The combination reflects the reality that the most valuable business professionals are those who can do both: understand what a business is trying to achieve and bring analytical rigour to the question of how.

At the University of Northumbria at Newcastle, this extended degree runs over four years and includes a sandwich year, a year abroad, and work placement opportunities, giving you extensive professional and international experience alongside your studies. The extended format provides additional time for your skills and confidence to develop, and the placement and abroad components give you direct engagement with business and analytical roles in real organisations and different national contexts. You will develop knowledge of business strategy, marketing, finance, and operations management alongside skills in statistical analysis, data visualisation, business intelligence tools, and the application of machine learning to business problems.

The programme builds both the conceptual understanding and the practical competence that employers in data-driven business environments look for.

Graduates pursue careers as business analysts, data analysts, operations analysts, strategy consultants, and management professionals across financial services, retail, logistics, healthcare, and technology. The year abroad and sandwich year are significant assets in the graduate job market, demonstrating both professional competence and international adaptability. Further study options include postgraduate degrees in business analytics, data science, management, and business administration.

The programme genuinely lives up to its reputation. The best part: small-group tutorials really push your thinking. If I'm honest, first-year classes can be quite large. On the city β€” the city is a brilliant student city with plenty to do o…
