About this course

Business analytics is the discipline that applies data analysis, statistical modelling, and computational methods to the decisions organisations need to make. Where traditional management focuses on experience and judgement, business analytics introduces rigorous quantitative tools that allow companies to understand their customers better, forecast demand, optimise operations, evaluate the effectiveness of strategies, and identify risks before they materialise. As organisations across every sector generate ever-larger volumes of data, the ability to extract actionable insight from that data has become one of the most valued capabilities in the modern business world.

At Aston University, you will study Business Analytics over four years, full time, with a year abroad included in the programme. The year abroad gives you international exposure that can be particularly valuable in a field where business challenges and data environments vary significantly across countries and cultures. You will develop a strong foundation in quantitative methods, including statistics, optimisation, and forecasting, alongside a thorough grounding in business functions such as marketing, operations, finance, and strategy.

You will learn to work with analytical tools and software used in industry, and develop the ability to communicate findings clearly to decision-makers who may not share your technical background. The combination of business understanding and data competence is what distinguishes business analytics graduates from those trained in either management or data science alone.

Graduates of business analytics programmes are in strong demand across consulting, retail, financial services, logistics, healthcare, and technology. Roles include business analyst, data analyst, operations analyst, supply chain analyst, and strategy analyst. The degree's combination of technical and commercial skills means graduates can pursue professional qualifications in management or analytics alongside career development.

Further study options include postgraduate degrees in business analytics, data science, operational research, and management, as well as MBA programmes for those seeking more senior leadership roles.
