Bulgarian and Polish
Bulgarian and Polish together open up the cultures and histories of two of the most significant Slavic-speaking nations in Europe. Polish is spoken by over 40 million people and carries a literary and historical heritage of great depth, shaped by a position at the crossroads of European civilisation and by the turbulent twentieth-century history of partition, occupation, and communist rule. Bulgarian, the oldest written Slavic language, traces its literary tradition back to the ninth century and the creation of the Cyrillic alphabet, and its speakers share a rich culture connected to the Balkans, Byzantium, and the Ottoman legacy.
University College London's four-year full-time degree in Bulgarian and Polish is taught within a department with deep expertise in Slavonic and East European languages, and both languages can be studied from beginner level or built on from existing knowledge.
