About this course

Biotechnology with entrepreneurship brings together one of the most rapidly advancing areas of applied science with the commercial and creative thinking needed to turn scientific breakthroughs into products, companies, and solutions that change people's lives. Biotechnology uses living systems and biological processes to develop technologies in medicine, agriculture, food production, environmental management, and materials science. The entrepreneurship strand recognises that scientific discovery alone is not sufficient: translating it into real-world impact requires the ability to identify market opportunities, manage risk, attract investment, and build organisations.

At the University of Manchester, this four-year full-time programme includes a foundation year designed to build the scientific foundations needed before you progress into the main degree. Manchester is one of the world's leading research universities and has a particularly strong life sciences research community, which enriches the teaching and gives students access to scientists working at the frontier of the discipline.
