About this course

Biomedical sciences is the study of human health and disease at the molecular, cellular, and physiological level, connecting the fundamental sciences to the clinical questions that matter most for medicine and healthcare. The discipline draws on biochemistry, cell biology, genetics, physiology, neuroscience, and pharmacology to build a mechanistic understanding of how the body works and why it sometimes fails. This kind of understanding is the foundation for the development of new diagnostics, treatments, and therapeutic approaches, making biomedical scientists essential contributors to medical progress.

At Southampton, this four-year integrated master's (MSci) focuses on the exploration and understanding of human disease across all levels of biological organisation. You will study biochemistry, physiology, neuroscience, cell biology, genetics, and pharmacology, building a broad foundation in the biomedical sciences before progressively tailoring your studies to the areas that most interest you.
