Biomedical sciences is the cluster of disciplines that bridges the gap between basic biological science and clinical medicine, studying the mechanisms of disease, the functioning of body systems, and the diagnostic and therapeutic tools that healthcare depends on. At Newcastle University this three-year full-time programme has a deferred choice structure, which means you begin with a broad biomedical sciences curriculum before specialising in a particular area as the degree progresses. You will study physiology, cell biology, biochemistry, microbiology, immunology, pharmacology, and pathology, developing both scientific knowledge and the laboratory skills that are central to biomedical work.

The programme includes a sandwich year with a work placement and a year abroad, giving you substantial professional experience and international exposure alongside your academic studies.
