Biomedical science is the discipline that bridges the gap between fundamental biological research and the clinical practice of medicine. At Bangor University, this three-year, full-time degree is available with a foundation year for students who need an additional preparatory year before entering the main programme. A sandwich year, a year abroad, and a work placement are all available as part of the degree structure, giving you multiple opportunities to gain professional experience and broaden your perspective before you graduate. The programme develops the scientific knowledge and laboratory skills needed to understand human biology and disease, covering areas such as haematology, clinical biochemistry, medical microbiology, and histopathology.

Biomedical science graduates work in NHS hospital laboratories, private diagnostic companies, pharmaceutical and biotechnology research, public health agencies, and the medical devices sector. Many go on to achieve state registration with the Health and Care Professions Council, qualifying as registered biomedical scientists and taking on clinical laboratory roles that directly support patient diagnosis and treatment. Others move into research and development, quality assurance, regulatory affairs, or healthcare management.

The degree also provides a strong foundation for postgraduate study in biomedical science, medicine, and related health sciences.
