About this course

Biomedical engineering is a dynamic, multidisciplinary field that links engineering and medicine to improve health and quality of life. It encompasses the design and development of medical devices, imaging technologies, prosthetics and implants, biosensors, and therapeutic systems, requiring engineers who understand both the engineering sciences and the biological and physiological systems their work interacts with. The field is one of the most rapidly growing in all of engineering, driven by an ageing population, advances in materials and electronics, and the growing importance of personalised medicine and wearable health monitoring.

At the University of Sheffield, this five-year full-time MEng programme includes a foundation year that prepares you with the essential scientific and engineering knowledge needed to progress onto the main degree, as well as a year abroad to broaden your international perspective on the field. The MEng qualification indicates a level of engineering education beyond the bachelor's degree, reflecting the depth of technical knowledge and professional preparation the programme provides.
