Biology is the science of life in all its diversity, from the molecular machinery inside a single cell to the complex webs of interaction that make up entire ecosystems. It is a discipline that has never been more important than it is today: understanding how living systems work, how they respond to environmental change, and how they can be protected or harnessed is central to medicine, agriculture, conservation, and biotechnology. Studying biology at degree level means developing both a rigorous scientific understanding of life and the practical skills to investigate it.

At Kent, the Biology degree is hands-on, research-informed, and oriented towards the full breadth of the living world. You will study the complexity and diversity of life from bacteria and viruses through to animals, plants, and entire ecosystems, developing analytical, practical, and critical thinking skills as you go. The programme is designed to equip you with the tools needed to understand how living systems function and how they are affected by external forces, whether those are human activities, disease, climate change, or evolutionary pressures.

Laboratory and fieldwork are integral to the learning experience, giving you the kind of direct engagement with biological material that cannot be replaced by lectures alone. The typical entry tariff is 104 UCAS points, and the degree runs full time over three years.

Biology graduates work in an exceptionally wide range of fields. Many enter careers in biomedical research, pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, environmental consultancy, conservation, public health, or ecology. Others move into teaching, science communication, policy, or the food and agriculture industries.
