About this course

Biology is the science of life, asking how living organisms are built, how they function, how they evolved, and how they interact with each other and with the physical world they inhabit. From the molecular machines inside cells to the ecological networks that sustain entire biomes, biology is a discipline of extraordinary scope and one of direct relevance to some of the most pressing challenges facing humanity: developing new medicines, responding to emerging diseases, protecting biodiversity, and adapting to climate change.

At Queen Mary University of London, you will study biology over four years full-time, developing a scientific education that equips you to carry out research, find solutions to biological problems, and contribute to the preservation and understanding of the natural world. The programme covers the core areas of the discipline, including cell and molecular biology, genetics, physiology, evolution, and ecology, and develops both your theoretical understanding and your practical laboratory and fieldwork skills.
