About this course

Biology at the molecular and cellular level examines life from the inside, investigating the structures and processes within and between cells that underpin the functioning of all living organisms. Molecular biology asks how genetic information is stored, copied, expressed, and regulated, and how mutations in that information give rise to disease. Cell biology examines the organisation and behaviour of the fundamental units of life, from the cytoskeleton and cell membrane to signalling pathways and the cell cycle.

Together these fields are at the heart of modern biomedical science, pharmacology, and biotechnology.

At the University of Huddersfield, this three-year full-time programme includes a foundation year to build the scientific foundations you need before entering the main degree, as well as a sandwich year with work placement opportunities. This combination of additional scientific preparation and extended professional experience makes the programme particularly well suited to students who want both solid grounding and genuine industry exposure before they graduate. You will study cell and molecular biology in depth, alongside biochemistry, genetics, microbiology, and the laboratory techniques, from PCR and microscopy to protein analysis and cell culture, that are central to modern biological research.
