About this course

Biological sciences is one of the broadest and most consequential of the natural science disciplines, encompassing everything from molecular genetics and cell biology to ecology, evolution, and the study of biodiversity at global scale. At Imperial College London, one of the world's leading universities for science and technology, this four-year full-time programme combines rigorous biological training with a year spent at an approved university in France, Germany, or Spain, integrating language learning with scientific study in a genuinely distinctive way.

The French for Science element means you will develop real functional competence in French alongside your biology, preparing you to engage with the international scientific community and to read scientific literature and attend conferences in another language. This is increasingly valuable in a field where collaboration across national boundaries is routine and where much important research is published in French, German, or Spanish before it appears in English translation. Scientifically, you will study across the breadth of the biological sciences including biochemistry, physiology, genetics, ecology, microbiology, and evolution, developing both the theoretical understanding and the laboratory and field skills that underpin modern biological research.

A typical tariff of 184 points reflects the highly competitive nature of study at Imperial.

Biological sciences graduates from Imperial are exceptionally well placed for careers in research, medicine, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, conservation, science policy, science communication, and education. The language skills you develop add a further dimension of versatility, opening doors in international research institutions, European policy bodies, and multinational companies. Postgraduate study in any of the biological or biomedical sciences is a natural next step for those who want to develop specialist expertise.

A great decision
The programme genuinely lives up to its reputation. The best part: the teaching staff are genuinely world-class and accessible. If I'm honest, some seminar groups were too big for meaningful discussion. On the city β€” local cost of living is…
