The main programme includes a sandwich year and embedded work placement opportunities, ensuring that your scientific education is connected throughout to real professional and research environments.

Hartpury's description of the programme is clear about its dual orientation: you will expand your skills inside the laboratory and outside in the field, preparing for careers in the biological sciences through both rigorous academic study and direct practical experience.

You will study cell biology, genetics, ecology, evolutionary biology, physiology and research methods, developing both theoretical understanding and the laboratory and fieldwork techniques that biological science careers require.

Graduates pursue careers in research, conservation, environmental consultancy, pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries, agricultural science, public health, education and science communication. Many go on to postgraduate study in more specialised areas of biology, including molecular biology, ecology, conservation biology or biomedical science. The foundation year means this pathway is open to students who are motivated and curious even if their prior scientific qualifications are not at the standard entry level.
