About this course

Biological sciences is the study of living systems at every scale, from the molecular mechanisms inside a single cell to the functioning of entire ecosystems. It is one of the broadest and most rapidly advancing areas of science, encompassing genetics, cell biology, physiology, ecology, evolution, and microbiology. The questions it addresses, how life works, how organisms develop and reproduce, how diseases arise, and how species interact with each other and their environments, sit at the centre of some of the most important scientific and social challenges of our time.

This four-year full-time programme at the University of Edinburgh includes a year abroad, giving you the opportunity to study at an international partner institution and to encounter biological science research in a different academic and cultural context. With a typical tariff of 200 points, this is a highly selective programme that attracts students with strong scientific foundations and serious intellectual ambition. Edinburgh is one of the UK's leading research universities with exceptional facilities in the life sciences, and the environment you study in is one shaped by active research across the biological disciplines.
