Biological Sciences

Biological sciences is one of the broadest and most intellectually dynamic fields available at undergraduate level. It spans everything from ecology and evolutionary biology to molecular genetics, cell biology, and the life sciences that underpin modern medicine and biotechnology. In an era of rapid advances in sequencing technology, synthetic biology, and ecological understanding, the biological sciences sit at the centre of some of the most important scientific and social questions of our time, from pandemic preparedness and the development of new medicines to the conservation of biodiversity and the response to climate change.

At Liverpool this three-year full-time degree allows you to pursue your own areas of specific interest while gaining an appreciation of the full range of the subject. You will draw on ideas, techniques, and information from across biology, and the flexible programme structure means that if you decide in the first two years that you wish to specialise in a particular area, you can transfer to one of the specialist programmes in the School of Biosciences. A year abroad is also available, giving you the opportunity to study in a different academic and scientific environment.
