About this course

Development, regeneration and stem cells is a specialism within biological sciences that focuses on how living organisms grow, how their tissues are repaired after damage, and how stem cells, the remarkable cells capable of self-renewal and differentiation into specialised cell types, offer profound possibilities for understanding and treating disease. Developmental biology asks how a single fertilised egg gives rise to an organism of extraordinary complexity, with hundreds of different cell types arranged precisely in space and time. Regenerative biology extends this to ask how some organisms can repair damaged tissues and how the principles of development might be harnessed in medicine.
