At Wrexham University, this part-time programme includes a foundation year, giving you a supported entry route into degree-level scientific study. The foundation year is designed to build the background in biology, chemistry, and mathematics that degree-level biochemistry requires, making the programme accessible to those whose prior qualifications or study history mean they would benefit from this preparation before the main degree content begins. From the foundation year onward, you will develop understanding of the core areas of biochemistry, including protein structure and function, molecular genetics, cellular biochemistry, enzymology, and metabolism, alongside experimental laboratory skills in techniques that are used in both academic research and industrial settings.

Graduates of biochemistry programmes are well prepared for careers in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and healthcare industries, including roles in research and development, quality assurance, laboratory management, and clinical trials. Medical, dental, and veterinary school routes are pursued by some graduates, while others move into scientific writing, science communication, patent work, and regulatory affairs.
