About this course

Biochemistry examines life at the molecular level, asking how the chemical processes that occur within and between cells produce the extraordinary complexity of living organisms. It is a discipline that sits at the junction of biology and chemistry, using the tools of both to understand how proteins fold and function, how genetic information is stored, expressed, and regulated, how energy is generated and used, and how these processes go wrong in disease. As our ability to read and manipulate the molecular machinery of life has accelerated, biochemistry has become one of the most consequential and rapidly developing of the biological sciences.

At Imperial College London, this three-year full-time Biochemistry degree develops a deep and rigorous understanding of the subject, preparing you for research-informed careers across the life sciences. You will build expertise in molecular biology, protein biochemistry, cell biology, genetics, enzymology, and the experimental and computational methods that modern biochemistry employs.
