About this course

Biochemistry is the chemistry of life: the discipline that examines the molecular processes that underlie all biological phenomena, from the replication of DNA and the synthesis of proteins to the metabolism that provides energy for cellular activity and the signalling pathways that allow cells to communicate and respond to their environment. At the University of Northumbria at Newcastle, this four-year full-time Extended Degree programme builds in extra time and academic support to allow students to reach their potential in a demanding scientific discipline. You will develop expertise in the molecular biology of the cell, including nucleic acid biochemistry, protein structure and function, enzyme kinetics, metabolic pathways, and cell signalling, alongside the techniques that underpin modern biochemical research, including chromatography, spectroscopy, electrophoresis, and molecular biology methods.
