Aviation, travel, and tourism is a field that connects two of the most interconnected industries in the global economy. Aviation provides the infrastructure that makes mass international tourism possible, requiring complex global planning, safety-critical operations, and the management of enormous logistics networks. Tourism, in turn, drives demand for aviation, shaping route decisions, airport development, and the economic geography of the sectors.

Together, they constitute one of the world's largest and most dynamic economic activities, with significant social, cultural, and environmental implications.

At Teesside University, this part-time programme develops your understanding of both aviation and tourism as industries and as subjects of academic study. You will examine the history and development of aviation as a global industry, the scale and scope of the sector in terms of airports, airlines, passenger volumes, and major routes, and the operational requirements that keep it functioning safely and efficiently. The relationship between aviation and international tourism is a central theme, exploring how the two industries have shaped and depend upon each other.

You will also study how communication supports the aviation and tourism sectors and the challenges that arise when it fails.

Graduates from aviation, travel, and tourism programmes pursue careers across the aviation industry, in airports, airlines, and ground operations, as well as in travel agencies, tour operators, hotel and hospitality management, destination marketing, and tourism development. The combination of aviation and tourism knowledge is particularly valued in roles that require understanding of both industries simultaneously, including positions in airline commercial departments, aviation management, and integrated tourism companies. Postgraduate study in aviation management, tourism management, or international business is a natural continuation.
