Aviation and Tourism

Aviation and tourism are two industries that are deeply interdependent: air travel is the primary means by which international tourism flows, and the operational and safety standards of aviation are central to the tourist experience at its most foundational level. Studying them together gives you an understanding of both the operational realities of the aviation sector and the commercial, cultural and managerial dimensions of tourism, preparing you for a range of careers in two industries that together form one of the world's largest economic sectors.

At Teesside University this programme runs full time over two years, giving you an intensive and focused route into both fields. You will study the health, safety and security standards that are universally applied in aviation operations, understanding how these frameworks are implemented and how they contribute to emergency planning and risk management. Alongside this you will explore key aviation operations relating to teamwork and the management of incidents, as well as the management challenges and decision-making processes that characterise leadership in both aviation and tourism contexts.

You will develop professional knowledge of how both industries are organised and regulated, alongside the practical skills in communication, teamwork and problem-solving that employers in these service-oriented sectors consistently value. The two-year programme provides a direct and efficient route into employment in industries where graduate demand is consistent.

Graduates from aviation and tourism programmes move into roles in airline operations, airport management, tourism development, travel management companies, hospitality and events. Entry-level roles may include ground operations, customer experience, travel consultancy and events coordination, with progression over time to management and leadership positions.
