About this course

Automotive engineering is concerned with the design, development, manufacture, and testing of cars, trucks, and other vehicles. It is a discipline that brings together mechanical engineering, electronic systems, materials science, aerodynamics, and increasingly software engineering, as vehicles become more electrified, connected, and autonomous. At Brunel University London, the MEng Automotive Engineering integrated degree runs over four years of full-time study, providing an additional year of advanced study and training beyond the bachelor's level that deepens knowledge and puts students on a fast track to becoming a chartered engineer, as the current description notes.

The programme develops a rigorous foundation in the mechanical engineering sciences, including statics and dynamics, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, materials science, and manufacturing processes, alongside the specific knowledge of vehicle systems that distinguishes automotive engineering from general mechanical engineering.
