About this course

Artificial intelligence is transforming the tools and processes through which almost every professional field operates, and developing the engineering skills to design, build and deploy AI systems is among the most valuable technical education available today. At the University of Southampton, this six-year full-time programme includes an industrial studies component, giving you extended professional experience in an AI or technology context as part of an already comprehensive academic education. Southampton is one of the UK's leading centres for AI research, and the degree is taught by researchers who are actively shaping the field.

You will develop a thorough grounding in the mathematical and computational foundations of AI, including probability and statistics, linear algebra, optimisation and the programming skills needed to implement and evaluate machine learning systems. The curriculum progresses from fundamental algorithms through to neural networks and deep learning, natural language processing, computer vision, planning and search, reinforcement learning and the systems engineering required to deploy AI in real applications. The industrial studies component places you in a professional environment for an extended period, building the practical competence and professional network that employers value alongside academic credentials.
