About this course

Artificial intelligence and computer science together cover the foundations and frontiers of the discipline that is arguably reshaping more of modern life than any other. Computer science provides the mathematical and engineering foundations: algorithms, data structures, programming, operating systems, databases and computer architecture. Artificial intelligence builds on those foundations to address the challenge of creating systems that can perform tasks that would otherwise require human intelligence, from recognising images and understanding language to making decisions and learning from data.

Studying both together gives you both the theoretical depth and the practical breadth to understand and contribute to this rapidly developing field.

At Teesside University you will study artificial intelligence and computer science on a part-time basis, developing skills in the mathematics, algorithms and data structures that underpin both disciplines alongside applied programming and problem-solving. The programme introduces first principles and connects them to applied contexts, preparing you with transferable problem-solving skills that remain relevant as the specific technologies continue to evolve.
