About this course

Artificial intelligence and computer science represent two of the most consequential fields of the current era. Computer science provides the foundational knowledge of how computing systems are designed, programmed, and made to function reliably, including the mathematics, algorithms, data structures, and engineering principles on which all software is built. Artificial intelligence builds on this foundation to develop systems that can learn from data, reason under uncertainty, recognise patterns, and take actions that would previously have required human judgement.

Together they form a curriculum that addresses both the theoretical roots and the cutting-edge applications of modern computing.

At Teesside University, this three-year full-time programme develops your understanding of computer science fundamentals alongside increasingly sophisticated AI topics, including machine learning, data-driven methods, and their applications in real-world systems. You will build strong programming skills and develop the ability to think rigorously about algorithms and problem-solving, applying these capabilities in both theoretical and practical contexts.
