Architecture with Arts Foundation Year

At Lincoln, the arts foundation year is shared across a range of creative programmes, including animation, fine art, graphic design, photography, and interior architecture, giving you the opportunity to explore different creative disciplines and develop the fundamental skills, artistic thinking, and visual awareness that architecture and the other arts share. The architecture degree itself develops spatial design skills, structural understanding, environmental knowledge, and the historical and theoretical literacy that architectural education requires, progressing through increasingly complex design projects and professional practice learning. A sandwich year in industry, a year abroad, and a work placement are all available, providing professional experience in architectural offices or related settings and broadening your perspective on how architecture is practised in different contexts.

Architecture graduates use the degree as the first step on a professional path that, in the UK, requires Part 2 and Part 3 qualifications before full registration as an architect. Many graduates continue to Part 2 study either at Lincoln or elsewhere. Others find careers in the broader built environment sector, including urban design, heritage conservation, landscape architecture, and property development.
