Archaeology and Celtic civilisation make an intellectually rich pairing that opens two complementary windows onto the ancient and medieval world. Archaeology examines how people in the past interacted with their world through the study of objects, sites, monuments, and landscapes, developing skills in interpretation, fieldwork, and material analysis. Celtic civilisation draws on literary, linguistic, and historical sources to explore the cultures of the ancient and medieval Celtic-speaking peoples of Britain, Ireland, and mainland Europe, a tradition that extends from pre-Roman Gaul to the medieval literature of Wales and Ireland.

At Glasgow, this programme allows you to pursue both disciplines within one of the world's leading research universities. You will develop competence in archaeological field methods and theoretical frameworks alongside a grounding in early Celtic languages, literatures, and history. The year abroad option gives you the opportunity to study at a partner institution in another country, broadening your academic and personal horizons.

The programme is offered part-time, making it accessible to those who are managing work or other commitments alongside their studies.

Graduates of archaeology and Celtic civilisation programmes pursue careers in heritage management, museum and archive work, local and national government cultural services, field archaeology, and community history.
