Animal Management
Animal Management is the study of how animals are cared for, handled, and managed in a wide variety of settings, from farms and wildlife parks to laboratories, rescue centres, and companion animal facilities. It draws on animal behaviour and welfare science, nutrition, anatomy, physiology, and husbandry, combining scientific knowledge with the practical skills needed to work responsibly with different species. As public awareness of animal welfare has grown and as the range of settings in which people work professionally with animals has expanded, a structured education in animal management has become an increasingly relevant foundation for a variety of careers.
At Anglia Ruskin University, this programme is offered on a part-time basis, which makes it accessible to students who are already working in animal-related roles or who need to balance study with other commitments. You will develop knowledge of animal biology and physiology, learn how to assess and promote the welfare of animals in different environments, study behaviour and its interpretation, and understand the legal and ethical frameworks that govern working with animals in the UK. Practical skills in handling, observation, and record-keeping are central to the programme, alongside the scientific literacy needed to evaluate research on animal health and management.
