Agriculture with a focus on regenerative systems and livestock addresses two of the most important directions in contemporary farming: the move toward regenerative practices that rebuild soil health, restore biodiversity, and sequester carbon, and the responsible management of livestock in ways that are both productive and environmentally sound. Regenerative agriculture is not simply a set of techniques: it is a philosophy of farming that asks how agricultural land can become more productive over time by working with natural systems rather than against them. Livestock management within this context requires a deep understanding of animal nutrition, health, and welfare alongside the ecological systems that grazing animals inhabit and shape.
This part-time programme at Anglia Ruskin University is designed to be accessible to students who are already working in agriculture or the land-based sector, recognising that farming is often a full-time commitment that sits alongside study. You will explore soil biology and health, regenerative grazing systems, pasture management, livestock husbandry and welfare, agroforestry, the economics of regenerative farm enterprises, and the environmental and policy frameworks that support the transition toward more sustainable farming. ARU's strong environmental science culture provides a research context that takes these questions seriously.
Graduates from this programme pursue careers in farm management with a regenerative focus, agricultural consultancy, conservation grazing management, farm-to-fork businesses, rural land management, and agricultural policy and advisory roles. The growing consumer and commercial interest in regenerative and sustainable food systems means that expertise in this area is increasingly in demand from retailers, food companies, land managers, and environmental organisations. Further study in agroecology, sustainable agriculture, environmental management, or rural business development is an option for those who want to develop specialist expertise.
