Agriculture is the foundation of food security, rural economies and the management of the land. It encompasses crop science, animal husbandry, soil science, agronomy, farm business management, and the environmental and policy frameworks within which farming operates. Modern agriculture faces a remarkable set of challenges: feeding a growing global population sustainably, adapting to climate change, managing biodiversity, reducing environmental impact, and remaining economically viable in complex and often volatile markets.
Understanding these challenges requires both rigorous scientific knowledge and practical competence in the management of agricultural systems.
At Anglia Ruskin University, this part-time programme gives you the opportunity to develop your agricultural knowledge and skills while continuing to work or manage other commitments. The part-time structure, which allows you to complete the degree over either four or six years, makes the programme particularly accessible to those who are already working in farming or a related land-based sector and want to formalise and deepen their knowledge alongside their practical experience. You will take the same modules as full-time students, developing knowledge of plant and animal science, soil and land management, farm business management, environmental stewardship, and the regulatory and policy contexts that shape agricultural practice in the UK and internationally.
Practical experience and the ability to apply scientific knowledge to real farming and land management situations are central to the programme. You will develop both technical competence and the business and management skills that running a successful agricultural enterprise requires.
Graduates from agriculture degrees move into farm management, agri-business, land management, agri-food supply chains, environmental and countryside management, agricultural consultancy, and roles in government bodies and rural organisations. Further study in agriculture, land management, rural enterprise or environmental management is an option for those who want to develop deeper expertise or move into research and advisory roles.
