Adult Nursing
Adult nursing is a profession dedicated to caring for people across the full adult lifespan, from young adults to the elderly, in settings ranging from acute hospital wards and intensive care units to community clinics, care homes, and people's own homes. Adult nurses are responsible for assessing patients' physical and psychological needs, planning and delivering care, administering medications, monitoring clinical conditions, and supporting patients and their families through illness, recovery, and end-of-life care. It is a role that demands clinical competence, compassionate communication, and the professional judgment to make sound decisions in complex and sometimes rapidly changing situations.
At University College Birmingham, this three-year full-time programme prepares you for registration as an adult nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Council, the regulatory body for nursing in the UK. The programme combines academic study with substantial supervised clinical placements in a range of healthcare settings, where you develop practical nursing skills and professional confidence under the guidance of experienced registered nurses. You will study the anatomy and physiology relevant to adult nursing, pharmacology and medicines management, nursing theory and evidence-based practice, long-term condition management, mental health awareness, and the ethical and legal framework governing professional nursing practice.
