Adult Nursing

Adult nursing is one of the most direct and meaningful careers in healthcare, involving the care of adults with the full range of acute, long-term, and complex health conditions across hospital wards, community settings, and specialist units. Nurses assess patients' needs, plan and deliver care, administer medications, support recovery and rehabilitation, and provide the human connection that is central to good healthcare. The profession demands clinical competence, sound judgement, compassion, and the resilience to work effectively in demanding and often emotionally intense environments.

At the University of Chichester, this three-year full-time BSc (Hons) in Adult Nursing is delivered in small cohorts, creating a close-knit learning community in which you can develop both as a clinician and as a person. You will develop into a resilient, attentive, and caring professional, prepared for the ever-changing and dynamic healthcare sector. Clinical placements are integrated throughout the programme, giving you direct supervised experience of caring for adult patients in NHS and other healthcare settings.

You will study anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, nursing assessment and care planning, evidence-based practice, leadership, and the legal and ethical frameworks that govern nursing, all within a curriculum that takes the realities of clinical practice seriously.

Graduates are eligible to register with the Nursing and Midwifery Council as registered nurses, which is required for independent nursing practice in the UK. Employment opportunities are strong across the NHS, independent healthcare providers, nursing homes, and community health services. Many nurses go on to develop specialist expertise in areas such as critical care, oncology, mental health, or surgical nursing, and postgraduate study in advanced clinical practice, nursing leadership, or specialist nursing fields supports career progression into senior clinical, management, and research roles.
