About this course

Accounting and finance combined with law provides one of the most practically powerful combinations available at undergraduate level, bringing together the quantitative rigour and commercial insight of financial education with the analytical and interpretive discipline of legal study. Accounting trains you to prepare, analyse, and interpret financial information, to understand the frameworks within which businesses manage their finances, and to develop the judgement needed for sound financial decision-making. Finance extends this into the study of capital markets, investment, risk, and the management of financial resources across organisations.

Law introduces you to the foundations of the legal system, the rules and principles that govern commercial activity, and the analytical methods needed to interpret legislation and case law. Together, they produce graduates who can navigate the intersection of financial and legal reasoning that professional life increasingly demands.

At Liverpool Hope University, this four-year full-time degree includes a foundation year, providing the conceptual and academic foundations needed before the main degree begins. A sandwich year with work placement gives you direct professional experience in an accounting, finance, or legal context, while the option of a year abroad adds an international dimension to your educational experience. Work placement is embedded as a core feature, giving you practical exposure to professional environments and the opportunity to build the experience and networks that employers value.

Graduates of accounting and finance with law are exceptionally well positioned for careers in professional services. Common destinations include roles in chartered accountancy, management accounting, corporate finance, financial analysis, audit, tax, and financial regulation. The legal component opens additional pathways in commercial law, compliance, financial regulation, and in-house legal roles within financial institutions.

Many graduates continue to professional qualification with bodies such as the ICAEW, ACCA, CIMA, or CILEX, using the degree as the academic foundation for professional membership. Postgraduate study in accounting, finance, law, or related fields is also a natural progression for those seeking specialist depth.
